Upon receiving a diagnosis of hip arthritis, I turned to Carolyn for help. Her expert assessment revealed not only the source of my pain but also postural misalignments and long-held tensions on my left side. Carolyn's two-part program, consisting of specific exercises, stretches, and breath work for my home practice, and myofascial release at her home studio, brought me significant relief. After just a few visits, my pain has lessened dramatically, and I've regained the ability to walk, hike, garden, and move more comfortably throughout my day. I'm still on my journey, but I now have a plan that gives me hope and relief. Carolyn's care goes beyond her professional expertise. She is a kind and compassionate person who always has her client's best interests at heart. I can't recommend her enough! --J.C.
I have been taking yoga classes with Carolyn for many years. What I have always loved about her teaching is that she teaches with a focus on body mechanics and how the body is moving. The yogic view of using a pose to get into the body and its movement, not just using the body to get into a pose applies to her teaching. This helps me learn more about my body and safe movement when I practice. In a MFR session with Carolyn, she worked on my upper back and my right shoulder where I have been experiencing a lot of tightness for several months. That restricted movement in my shoulder and sometimes has made turning my head painful. In the session, it was surprising to feel that during the steady prolonged hold she performed on my back, suddenly there was a deep release in my shoulder. It almost felt like my muscles were relaxing their tension away. It was cool! I noticed improvements in my shoulder and neck movement immediately after the session. It felt freer and less painful to move. The next day, I happened to have a session with my long-time chiropractor. Without my mentioning anything about the MFR session to him, he asked me if I had had any massage or body work done recently because he noticed that there was more movement in my joint and shoulder. He was pleased. So was I! -- D.L.
After experiencing neck pain and loss of motion, a neurologist told me I needed to mediate and do yoga in order to resolve these issues. A coworker recommended I see Carolyn and she was a God send! Not only is she highly knowledgeable but she is also an observant, gifted and intuitive therapist. I found out my neck wasn't my only problem. Just like the song “Dem Bones”, your neck bone is connected to your backbone and therefore everything on down the line. I worked with Carolyn for several months learning to observe and listen to my body. She provided me with breathing and movement exercises which allowed me to relax and recognize what my body needed to get in alignment and reduce tension. The result was my neck pain was reduced and my range of motion increased. We continued to work on whole body therapy and she provided me with a personalized workout so I could continue my path to wellness, mobility and strength at home. Carolyn is a skilled and gifted teacher and a natural healer! --C.S.
Everyone has a story, something that defines them and shapes the core elements of their personality. I decided long ago that being fat would not be my story. Not until I met Carolyn did I realize the monster inside my head was not about being fat or getting into shape, but about truly caring about myself. She worked with me on my needs given my limitations and turned them into strengths. Carolyn showed me how to manage my 8-hour workday without losing myself and helping me to feel mentally and physically more present at work. Simple life changes that have a great impact, making me ready for the day and ready for a good night's sleep. Kind and caring, positive and able to see beyond my words—thank you Carolyn for being present, knowledgeable and willing to work with the daily realities of my life.-- M.A .
I started with Carolyn at a class with the Stroke Comeback Center. I had sat for long hours working for too many hours a day before I had a stroke and, although I didn’t have any physical effects from the stroke, I had stopped exercising and concentrated all my energy on speech therapy. As a result, I was sorely in need of finding someone who could help move me better, improve my balance and help me improve my agility. I started private sessions, and she helped me overcome my reticence and start a program designed especially for me that has increased my energy and overall state of fitness. She cheers me on and celebrates my achievements, encouraging me to be patient and persevere. In short, she is everything I hoped for to guide me to better health and fitness. Don’t hesitate or wait- sign up for a session today. - J.M.
I believe it would be safe to say at some point everyone’s body hurts. As time goes on our body tends to have more aches and pains. I became Carolyn’s client when she noticed me standing in a way that showed I wasn’t comfortable. I admitted that my legs, back and feet hurt almost all the time. At that time though I was getting ready to bicycle 33 miles for a fundraising event for diabetic research and I was concerned about my ability to successfully complete the ride. Using yoga movements I was able to reduce pain and tension in my legs and successfully ride the entire 33 miles!I went from the couch to the entire goal of 33 miles with her guidance and coaching! Iwas able to stop enduring the aches. And, she changed my perspective as well. Carolyn’s attention to detail in how I was moving and her compassion and desire to truly help me made a difference. The journey was a positive one in which I foresaw my feeling good and finished feeling great! The exercises were easy and were intended to make slight changes to retrain me how to move properly. I learned I could feel strong and improve faster with more mindful movement instead of pushing heavier or with more repetitions. I highly recommend Carolyn’s services. - --E.B.
Thought for self-care:
Eventually, we reach the point where we start to realize that we are not going to find peace, contentment, happiness, strength, fearlessness - all of the things that our heart of hearts we wish we had --outside of us.
